Mallory Hagan, 23-year-old, was crowned Miss America 2013. The pageant was held was on Saturday night in Las Vegas. She is a native of Alabama, at 18 with less than $1,000 in her pocket she moved to New York to follow her dream of becoming a beauty Queen. She began competing in pageants when she was 13 year old and tried for Miss New York in 2010 and 2011 before winning last year.Prior to Miss America title, she was the title holder of Miss New York 2012, Miss New York City 2011 and Miss Brooklyn 2010.She also won the pageant's swimsuit competition portion.
She managed to answer the question of whether she supports guards at American schools. She answered, " I actually don’t think the proper way to fight violence is with violence. I think the proper way is to educate people about guns and the ways we can use them properly. You can lock them up; we can have gun safety classes, a longer waiting period before they are sold. The answer is not to fight violence with violence."
In an interview after her win, she said that it was her mother who encouraged her to tackle the issue. She said that sexual abuse had "rippled through" her family, touching her mother, aunt, grandmother and cousins. Her mother had trouble at first convincing others of the trauma she had faced. "That kind of sent her into a whirlwind of anxiety and depression. So as a teen I lost my mom kind of for a couple years," she said. "She was dealing with her own issues, and that's something that now as an adult I understand, but then I certainly did not."

I would agree with her answer violence is not the answer for violence. Sometimes, it's restraint and understanding that gets the job done.
ReplyDeleteshe is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with her answer ... we can't fight violence with another violence ... I just hope people could digest this .. but I also wish that the source of violence isn't there in the first place ...
