Learn to Read

My son is doing pretty good with his reading. He knows all the alphabet before he went to school and then he learned all the sounds and others before the end of school year. Summer vacation is his time to learn to read. He reads during bedtime and once he is done, he feel sleepy and tired. This technique works well with him. His math is great too, he now knows how to count up to 100, not perfect but at least he is able to recognize two digit numbers.

I called my sister 4 months ago, asking her to send me the popular ABAKADA book that is being sold everywhere on the Philippines side walk. I firmly believe that  this book is still the best when it comes to  learning how to learn the letters and words.

Luckily, I found an alternative book at the thrift store for 50 cents. "Handbook for Reading" could well be entitled, Learning to Read. It maybe used at any level for initial teaching of phonics and reading, for reinforcement of skills, or for remedial work. By mastering the simple phonics sounds in this book, any child can be a skillful reader. I highly recommend the book, perfect for my son and for your kids too.

  1. Reading loudly can also help their English fluency and pronunciation.

  2. It's better if we, parents teach our kids the basics of reading before they fully understand words and their meaning so that when they start reading in school, they will able to catch up easily.

  5. All three of my kids went through this Abakada booklet. You're right, Mami Tess, it's still the best handbook for learning the alphabet. My kids all knew the alphabet before they started school.
